Flight plans must be delivered in person or via telephone to Palma de Mallorca. There is a good online flight planning service available from the airport offices just before going airside. Flights are forbidden without prior permission from palm Mallorca. Son Bonet was the first civil airfield on Mallorca. Originally built during the 1920s as an alternative to the military airport at Son Sant Joan, the first commercial flight was in 1927. It was effectively closed in 1959 when the new airport was built outside Palma. It has a pleasingly relaxed feel with a collection of white low rise buildings giving it the feeling of an old barracks. It is the centre for GA aviation for Mallorca. The restaurant serves a good paella. Home base for Sloane Helicopters Mallorca.
