It is a family run and owned airfield.obtaining full planning permission in 1992, before gaining the CAA Aerodrome Licence in 1993. It is the only CAA licenced aerodrome in Derbyshire. The Derby Aero Club was formed at what was Burnaston Airfield and continues to grow with many of the original members still active. Numerous private aircraft also are based on site, with many more visiting for maintenance services.
